Frequently asked questions
Q. How can my friends and family view my interview and any materials I provide?
Eventually all the interviews, along with selected photos and documents, will be available on the Veterans History Project website.
Q. How will my materials be preserved?
The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County has established a Veterans Archives, which is open to the public. All materials, including the recordings, are preserved meeting high archival standards. Copies of all materials and interviews are also sent to the Library of Congress for inclusion in their database.
Q. What will I be asked during the interview?
Prior to your interview you will be given a Biographical Data Sheet that asks you to outline highlights of your career. We use that sheet to ask you questions about your experiences. You will also have the opportunity to discuss potential questions with your interviewer before recording starts.
Q. What if there is something I choose not to discuss?
This is an opportunity to tell your story. It’s up to you to decide what you want to talk about. We will follow your lead.
Q. My friends and I are interested in participating. What do we do?
To get involved, complete this online form, call the Veterans History Line at 513-369-6907, or email us.
Q. I served in peacetime or after World War II. Are you interested in interviewing me?
Yes, we are interested in interviewing all veterans and those who supported the military effort (such as “Rosie the Riveter”). For the remainder of 2006 and the beginning of 2007 we will focus on World War II vets. After that we will begin interviewing veterans from later time periods.
Q. My father lives outside of Hamilton County. Can he still be interviewed?
Yes, this is a regional project and we recognize any connection to our local area, including you.
Q. Can my parking needs be accommodated?
Yes, all interviewees receive a parking spot in the Library lot. Some interviews are conducted at the Main Library and others at branches.
Q. I’d like to serve as an interviewer. How can I do that?
We will conduct a training session in 2007. For more information contact the Veterans History Project by phone (513-369-6907) or email.
Q. I’ve already interviewed veterans. Can I contribute them to your collection and database?
Absolutely! This is a good opportunity for small groups and classes to provide wider access to their interviews. Contact us by phone (513-369-6907) or email for more information.
