The inaugural Discovering New Mysteries International Mystery Writers' Festival will be held in Owensboro, Kentucky, June 12 to June 17, 2007. Some of your favorite writers of mystery and suspense novels, and luminaries from the worlds of film and television, will be on hand. New mystery plays, screenplays, and teleplays will be judged in competition and presented in live performances.
Among the writers attending will be: Stuart Kaminsky, author of more that 60 mysteries, and currently Grand Master of the Mystery Writers of America;
Louisville’s own Sue Grafton, author of the bestselling Kinsey Millhone mystery series;
Kentucky native James W. Hall, author of the long-running series of Thorn suspense novels set in Key West, Florida;
past Grand Master of Mystery and Edgar Award winner Ira Levin, best known, of course, for Rosemary’s Baby;
and, John Jakes, author of the historical Kent Family Chronicles and the Civil War Trilogy, North and South, Heaven and Hell, and Love and War.
Celebrities from the world of film and television are scheduled as well: Angela Lansbury of "Murder, She Wrote" will be honored by the governor of Kentucky as the "First Lady of Mystery," and a new award, the "Angie," established in her name;
Blake Edwards, famed director of the Pink Panther films, staring Peter Sellars;
William Link, creator of many hit television programs, including "Columbo;"
and, Broadway producer Samuel "Biff" Liff, a representative of the William Morris Agency.
Owensboro is Kentucky's third largest city, seated pleasantly on the Ohio River, 81 miles southwest of Louisville -- an easy, scenic drive from Cincinnati. The International Mystery Writers' Festival sounds like a lot of fun for mystery buffs, offering readers and fans a chance revel in a debut celebration of all things mysterious.
