Maisy!

Categories: Children's Books

We’ve developed quite a crush on Maisy at my house. Maisy is an adorable little mouse who stars in her own children’s book series created British book illustrator Lucy Cousins. (Maisy also has her own show on Nickelodeon’s Noggin)

Maisy is very much like a human toddler who goes on adventures and plays with her friends Charley the Crocodile, Tallulah the Baby Chicken, Cyril Squirrel, and Eddie Elephant. They guide little ones through everyday experiences such as making friends, riding tricycles, going swimming, playing in the garden, and reading books while reinforcing early learning concepts such as colors, numbers, and social themes.

The lift the flap board book format seem to be most popular at my house, but really all of her adventures are fabulous. I’m not sure if it is the brightly colored illustrations or think black outlines Cousins uses, but her illustrations mesmerize my kiddos.

Below are a few of the library’s collection of Maisy books. Happy Reading!

Maisy’s Nature Walk It’s a beautiful day, and Maisy is setting out on a nature walk. Little readers can pull the tabs to see a yellow flower unfurl, a snail poke out of its shell, a duckling hatch, a frog leap, and more.

Maisy Goes to the Museum On a rainy-day visit to the museum, Maisy and her friends explore everything from dinosaurs to a moon exhibit, from vintage vehicles to a giant dollhouse to the food exhibit. There’s always something new (or old) to see at a museum, and for little readers, it’s good to have a friend like Maisy along for the adventure.

Maisy Big, Maisy Small She’s fast, she’s slow, she’s messy, she’s clean — in this kaleidoscopic concept book, the beloved mouse even changes her look from familiar to new as she demonstrates thick and thin, tall and short, young and old, wiggly and straight.

Maisy Goes to BedI t's time for Maisy to go to bed. First she drinks her bedtime drink, then she has to brush her teeth, wash her hands, and put on her pajamas. There's a lot to do. So pull the tabs, lift the flaps, and help Maisy get ready!

Maisy’s Wonderful Weather Book What's the weather, Maisy? It's sunny - hooray! It's windy - hooray! It's raining - hooray, hooray! Whatever the weather, Maisy knows how to make the best of the day. Little fans will be proud to help with the forecast by pulling the tabs and turning the wheels to make the rain come down, the snow fall, the lightning flash, and even a rainbow appear!

Sweet Dreams Maisy Maisy and her friends have had a long day of play, and now the sun is setting, making pretty colors in the sky. Soon it's time for the sleepy mouse to sing and read to Panda and snuggle in her cozy bed.

Maisy Goes the the Library Maisy wants to read a book about fish, but she can only find books about birds or tigers. So she explores some of the other things to do in the library, like using the computer, making copies, listening to music, or looking at fish in the aquarium.

Ha! Ha! Maisy What makes Maisy and her friends laugh? How do they make playing games more fun? Lift the flaps in this new board book and find some funny surprises.

Is this Maisy’s House? Maisy loves to have friends over to visit — but which house is hers?

How will you get there, Maisy? How do Maisy and her friends get where they're going? This lift-the-flap surprise books let readers look at clues to help them guess — then lift a flap and find out for sure.
