Drivers wanted for Burt (B.S) Levy's Series of 1950's open-road car racing novels!
The Last Open Road series features narrator and small-town New Jersey resident Buddy Palumbo. Willing to do anything besides follow in his father’s footsteps by working in a chemical plant, Buddy finds work as an auto mechanic. Through this medium, Buddy discovers his talent for fixing classic sports cars. Among his favorites are MG’s, Ferraris and Jaguars. Eventually, Buddy falls into the practice of racing the sports cars and testing out his skills and handiwork. He develops a deep love for the cars, the racing, and the boss’ off-limits daughter, Julie Finzio.
The above describes the first novel in the series entitled, The Last Open Road. Due to a lack of interest in car racing fiction, just about every publishing company in the country turned the book down. Undaunted, Levy took a second mortgage out on his house as well as matters into his own hands when he decided to publish his own book. He entitled his company Think Fast Ink and the first book entitled, The Last Open Road received a favorable response. The title received the attention of a very prominent publishing company and more copies were subsequently produced.
Levy published the sequel entitled, Montezuma’s Ferrari. In order to publish this title, Levy enclosed a series of thirty-two advertisements within the novel. There are two more titles in the Last Open Road series, The Fabulous Trashwagon and Toly’s Ghost and these also contain car racing advertisements.
Burt Levy is a jack of all trades including former car salesman, racecar driver, and author. He is now working on the sale of his books having found that car racing itself fails to be as lucrative a business as he desired. Some say that the novels are historical non-fiction under the guise of fiction but that doesn't detract from the fact that they are still quite fun.
With the approach of the Indianapolis and Daytona 500's and other notable auto racing sporting events, Levy’s series just may appeal to the gear head in us. The engine, chassis, body and rims are all generously embellished with the bells and whistles required to appease the need for speed.
