Keeping You a Secret
Categories: Teen Books , Fiction , Gay & Lesbian
High school senior Holland Jaeger has the typical teenage life. She has siblings, a Mom and Dad who love her, top percentile grades, a posse of friends, a bright future and a loving boyfriend. Holland believes with all of her heart she has her whole life flawlessly plotted out. She probably does…until she meets Cece. Out and proud transfer student Cece Goddard breezes into Holland’s life and that flawlessly plotted plan changes just a weensy bit.
Holland endures emotional turmoil the likes of which walking barefoot through a cactus bed can never compare. If a piece of the earth decided to break off and sink into the ocean, this still will never be the equivalent of the upheaval Holland experienced. Some of Holland’s plans change, and some don’t. Holland changes a little too.
All in all, Holland finds happiness in an unlikely place and she also discovers how happiness is not as easy as it seams to achieve.
Peters writes with ease and empathy. Lovely language and emotionally seismic truth charges this fine example of teen literature so much so I was rendered sightless by the constant tears standing in my eyes.
