Gillian Flynn's Dark Places

Categories: Mystery & Suspense , Fiction

Ever wonder what happens to the survivors of a murdered family?  Usually, one family member survives.  How are they?  How do they live?  DO they live?  Flynn answers these questions and many more of the like in her incredible second outing, Dark Places.

Libby is one survivor of her murdered family.  Her mother and two sisters perished in the most heinous of ways.  Her older brother, 15 years old at the time, is very much alive and serving 20 years to life for the murders.

The book follows Libby, now 30 years old, on the journey of recovery; if one can recover from such a thing.  Recovery becomes discovery when a group called the Kill Cult contacts Libby.  The Kill Cult believes Libby’s brother is innocent and did not commit those murders.  Eventually, the cult convinces her to investigate.  Libby is shocked and amazed at what she uncovers and so was I.

Libby is forever damaged by the events that stole her humanity and by the lies told in order to keep her that way.  The mystery is solved to some degree and other aspects are left to our imaginations.  Just know it’s worth the effort.  Its very dark, the twists come far between but they are painstakingly realistic.  After her debut Sharp Objects, Gillian strikes gold again with Dark Places.
