Childhood Rediscovered

Categories: Rediscoveries , Staff Picks , Fiction

A recent trip to Border's Bookstore prompted me to think (dangerous) about what some of my favorite books as a child were.  The series that really stands out to me is the Frog and Toad series by Arnold Lobel.  Frog and Toad were among some of the first literary characters that my parents introduced me to.  I probably drove my parents nuts wanting them to read the Frog and Toad stories over and over (at least I was born in the pre-Barney era), and as an added bonus my brother was driven nuts as well.

I loved the many adventures contained in each story and, looking back, I must have been enthralled by their constant friendship and the lessons that each story contained.  I always feel a bit nostalgic when I check out a Frog and Toad book to a patron.  And it always gives me great pleasure to see that this series is still around to entertain future generations of children.

I asked some of my co-workers what their favorite books were as a child and here's a list of some of our reccomendations:

And by the way, the Northgate Borders has an adult storytime on August 31st.  Isn't it great that we can revisit our childhoods through the magic of books?
